It is my great pleasure to welcome everyone to the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth-Triangle (IMT-GT) Website, as the key information portal for the IMT-GT.
The Centre has come into fruition as part of the efforts to realise IMT-GT's vision; a Subregion that is "seamless, progressive, prosperous and peaceful with a greatly improved quality of life".
Since IMT-GT's inception in 1993, many programmes and activities have been implemented. Going forward, the key to realising our vision would be to combine the vast and rich land area, abundant labour, rich natural resources, and a market of about 70 million people to further enhance the cooperation to make the Subregion more developed and at par with the rest of the more economically developed regions of the three countries. It is this new challenge and aspiration that the IMT-GT's Roadmap for Development (2007-2011) identified key initiatives and strategic thrusts for the five-year period.
The implementation of the IMT-GT Roadmap and Action Plan will be guided, directed and coordinated through the IMT-GT institutional arrangements and mechanisms, from the very top, at the Leaders' Summit, Ministerial Meetings and Senior Officials right down to the implementing agencies, working groups and business people and our development partners. Given the number of stakeholders involved, there was a clear need for a central coordinating and monitoring entity to be evolved. The idea was first mooted in late 2006, but it was in August 2007 that CIMT was established and tasked with five key roles:
- IMT-GT Central Secretariat;
- Coordinating and Monitoring;
- Consultation and Facilitation;
- Studies and Evaluation; and
- Information Management.
I hope you find this Website informative and useful. As CIMT develops further, it is my sincere desire that you, as the stakeholder to the IMT-GT process, will provide comments and feedback to help IMT-GT's Website meet its roles and obligations. Finally, my thanks goes to ADB for their assistance in constructing this Website.
Thank you.
